PATTERN DESCRIPTION

The sun dress features straps, calf-length, elongated towards the bottom, seam at the waist. Front and back have cut-off sides, central seams and topstitching along these seams. The side seam has an invisible zipper. At the bottom of the dress you can make a hand-made fringe.

SUGGESTED MATERIALS

We recommend using denim as the best choice for this dress.

SEWING INSTRUCTIONS

FRONT BODICE

1. Fold right sides together and stitch the central parts of the front bodice (1) with the sides of the front bodice (2), as well as along the middle seam. Overlock them.

2. Press the front central seams to the center, press the middle seam to the left side.

3. Topstitch along all these seams by 0.5 cm (3/16’’)

BACK BODICE

1. Fold right sides together and stitch the central parts of the back bodice (3) with the sides of the back bodice (4), as well as along the middle seam. Overlock them.

2. Press the back central seams to the center, press the middle seam to the left side.

3. Topstitch along all these seams by 0.5 cm (3/16’’).

4. Stitch and overlock the shoulder seams and right side seam.

5. Press the seam allowances to the back.

DRESS BOTTOM

1. Fold right sides together and stitch the bottom central parts of the front (5) with the side parts (6), as well as along the middle seam. Overlock them.

2. Press the central seams to the center, press the middle seam to the left side.

3. Topstitch along all these seams by 0.5 cm (3/16’’).

4. Fold right sides together and stitch the bottom central parts of the back (3) with the sides of the back (4), as well as along the middle seam. Overlock them.

5. Press the central seams to the center, press the middle seam to the left side.

6. Topstitch along all these seams by 0.5 cm (3/16’’).

7. Stitch and overlock the right side seam of the bottom of the dress. Press the seam to the back.

DRESS ASSEMBLING

1. Overlock the waist sections of the bodice and the bottom of the dress.

2. Place right sides together and stitch the bodice and bottom of the dress along the waist seam. Press the allowances.

3. Topstitch at 0.5 cm (3/16’’) on both sides of the waist seam. Press.

4. Overlock the left side sections, starting from the armhole and 10 cm (4’’) below the notch of the end of the zipper.

5. Sew the left side seam from the notch of the end of the zipper to the bottom of the dress. Overlock seam allowances. Press the allowances where the zipper will be placed, and then press them onto the back at the bottom.

FACINGS

1. Sew the front (9) and back (10) facings along the shoulder seams and right side seam. Press allowances.

2. Overlock the bottom edge of the facing.

3. Stitch the front and back necklines with a facing at 0.7 cm (1/4’’), placing the pieces right sides together.

4. Topstitch along the facing at 0.1 cm (1/16’’) from the stitching seam. Press.

5. Sew the armholes of the dress at 0.7 cm (1/4’’) from the edge.

6. Topstitch along the facing in the armhole area at 0.1 cm (1/16’’) from the stitching seam. Press.

ZIPPER

We recommend steaming or pressing the zipper before sewing.

1. Unfasten the invisible zipper and place its one part to the hemmed edge, pin and stitch. Fasten the zipper and transfer the control notches and seams to the second part. Sew on the second part of the zipper. Press.

2. Stitch the zipper allowances with facings. Cut out corners and flip inside out.

FRINGE FOR HEMMING

1. Stitch along the entire length of the bottom of the dress, stepping 1.5 cm (3/4’’) from the cut.

2. Fray the fringe along the entire bottom edge using a hand needle.

3. Secure the facing along the bottom edge to the seams using hand stitches.

4. Give the dress a final press.
